I currently own 3 of these seats. They fit nicely in a row in a B5/B5.5. chassis system aka Audi/VW Passat (see my photo). Sure they are one of the heaviest seats out there. They are also one of the fewest seats that meet current FAA CFR regulations. That means 16g dynamic test. Can we say crash test dummies? The weight comes from the internal steel frame. This system is not conducive to flip in and out of your car. It was ok when we only had one child but with 3 under 4 yrs of age they now get left in place. When we took our 2 children cross country they had their own seats in the plane. For them it felt like home. Complaints. yes it does take thin hands to thread the belts in place on a plane. As for fitting had no problems on SWA or UA. It was a PITA carrying them through TSA and down the gates. Oldest seat is 3.5 years and shows no wear - used daily and the newest is 1.5 yrs
